They have been such a great partner to Moody Monday over the years. They have been fully responsible for our Nebulae velvet armchair turn out. The armchair+footstool has been such a hit with the New York design crowd. They have been a hit in every location wherever these stunning pair had landed on really.

You should visit them when you get the chance to. They also provide curtain making service and have worked with high profile clients like the G&V Hotel Edinburgh and Harvey Nichols to name a few.

TheMART, an Inspirational Design Center

We recently wrote about innovative co-working and maker spaces, and the impact they can make not only to boost creativity but with added benefits to health and wellbeing.

Today we expand on the theme, with focus on theMart, the world’s largest commercial building and design center, a truly inspiring center for design professionals and customers alike.

This art deco building has been an icon in Chicago’s history since the 1930s. It still remains a landmark hub for design, innovation and business, and the impact it has made on the surrounding area, with resulting buzz and connectivity for the community around the Chicago river, can not be underestimated.

Developed by Marshall Field & Co to create a central marketplace where retailers could come to buy their wares all under one roof.

Sitting across two city blocks, and with twenty-five storeys of innovation and culture, it is visited by an incredible 25,000 people each day.

Its Design Center, across four floors, is home to hundreds of tenants and offers a space for leading manufacturers with over 115 showrooms, showcasing over 2,500 products.

TheMART also serves as a business hub for interior designers, architects, contractors, business owners and buyers, as well as hosting several trade and consumer conferences and events each year.

With such an amazing choice of luxury and contemporary design on offer, we’ve space today to highlight just one of the amazing showrooms within theMART.

We particularly like this approach of industrial designer, Cia Mooney, who worked with the design team at Brayton to create this showroom. Using a limited budget, it still creates a huge impact with the space allowing the craftmanship of Brayton’s upholstered and wood framed furniture to take central stage.

Which designer wouldn’t love the opportunity to be included in such an innovative and creative design center?

Highlights from Decorex 2015

This time last week, we were down south in sunny England enjoying the sights and sounds of Syon Park. This was the chosen venue for Decorex International 2015 – the luxury design event of the year.

The design scene in London was buzzing last week. The London Design Festival kicked off with Decorex right at the start of the week from 20-23 September. The venue was filled to the brim with contemporary luxury furniture, lighting, wallpaper and a variety of home décor from a host of notable luxury brands. The four day event is the leading event for design professionals, interior designers, tradespeople and consumers to find out what’s trending and new on offer in the interior design industry.

Right there at Stand F17, Moody Monday was present with seven other talented designers specially selected by Design Nation. We were there to showcase a preview of the new designs we’ve been working on with our wallpaper and cushions (more to come on our official launch).

Salone Del Mobile, Milano – Part 2: Glass Furniture

A couple of weeks ago we posted about the vibrant root vases we discovered thanks to Salone del Mobile in Milano. Today we’re looking at Patricia Urquiola’s work, also present in the Milano exhibition: and we were quite taken by her innovative approach!

1-Blog-SHIMMER_PatriciaUrquiola

Are you as intrigued as we were? Entitled SHIMMER, the collection comprises low tables, consoles and shelves in laminated and glued glass, characterized by a special iridescent multi-chromatic finish:

2-Blog-SHIMMER_PatriciaUrquiola

The nuance varies according to the angle of the light source and the vantage point, giving the reflected objects a magical and ethereal appearance:

3-Blog-SHIMMER_PatriciaUrquiola

We learned from Glas Italia that the collection items come in opaque or transparent glass, or transparent glass with a special micro dot decoration. We this this one in particular is hypnotically elegant:

Moody Monday Showcased in Shenzhen, China

It seems as though just yesterday we were (carefully) packing our elegant and contemporary wallcoverings, and shipping them over all the way to Shenzhen, the UNESCO City of Design!

Blog-packing

Three weeks and almost 6000 miles later, there they are, being prepared for display in the Edinburgh Creative Industries taking place in Shenzhen, China. The incubator opens in a very short three days, on Friday 15th May and we’re very excited our work will be displayed in the venue for the upcoming three months.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity of sharing my wallcovering designs with the Chinese market, as Shenzhen is a vibrant and creative city, which falls in line with the designs I create. I’m looking forward to find out how my work will be received in this new market!” Eliza Kesuma, the designer behind Moody Monday.

The designs that will be on display are part of our first luxury wallpaper collection inspired by the inner workings of a musical organ. Here’s what we’ve sent over:

Design Trends From Salone Del Mobile, Milano – Part 1

The Salone Del Mobile di Milano has recently finished, so we took a sneak peak to see what the latest trends in furniture design are. The first piece that grabbed our attention and won us over, are the root vases, created by Milanese designer Giorgio Bonaguro and produced by DRIADE.

root-vase-blog-1

We think these are a brilliant execution of an ambivalent object: they combine a simple, clear glass cylinder on the outside, with an internal element of coloured glass imitating the roots of a flower:

root-vase-blog-2

The creative vase is both appealing in design, and functionality as it can be turned and used either to hold one single flower, or flipped over, to hold a colourful bunch:

root-vase-blog-3

The vases are made in blown borosilicate glass, and come in three lovely hues: yellow, green and blue, the central colours of nature, representing the sun, grass and skies. What a lovely touch!

Start Up Hub Finalist Exhibition, Manchester

Start Up Hub Finalist Exhibition, Manchester

We’re proud to say that we have made it as one of the 12 finalist in the Start Up Hub competition for top start-up businesses in the UK, sponsored by Fujitsu and BVCA. As the other start up businesses that made it to the finals are not only so varied in terms of what their business offers, but they seem like businesses with a solid proposition. Which is of course reassuring for us to know that we’re up against quality candidates and that we’re one of them! The finalists gets a chance to exhibit and present their business in front of thousands of delegates, the nation’s media and business leaders from across the country.

One main exhibition being 100% Design at Earls Court, London, the other being Start Up Hub, Manchester at the Conservative Conference with the two exhibitions being only a week apart.
