Important 2021 Service Update

International Orders and COVID-19 Restrictions Update

In light of current situation with Brexit and the new strain of COVID-19; bringing itself new higher level restrictions across Scotland and more widely, the UK. We have had to adjust our operations very swiftly and as accordingly.

As a creative and a design business, this has been proven tough to juggle and predict and has had quite the impact on all area of our small operation. We are still open and trading, in spite of the restriction brought upon by Brexit and COVID-19. However, this operation will be limited until further notice.

International Orders & Deliveries Suspended (until further notice)

Regretfully, we currently have had to stop any international orders and deliveries until we can figure out what the best way forward is, following Britain’s exit from the EU and whatever implications this may impose on the business. We are anticipating in resolving this towards late January to early February 2021. So, for the time being, all orders through the website are limited to UK only.
COVID-19 Restrictions on Courses and Events

> Long and short courses that run in groups are suspended until further notice.

All of the long and short term courses have stopped since the pandemic started last year and in light of the current situation and restrictions, we have decided to not resume the courses for the time being, we will review this situation again at spring time.

> 1:1 courses are suspended until restriction changes.

Our 1:1 courses will still be available for booking as soon as the restriction level is reduced and it is safe for us to resume this, perhaps much sooner than spring time, perhaps end of January, who knows? We’ll just have to wait and see. The safety of the community and of you and I are the most important thing and it’s not something I take lightly.

> Direct (face to face) events and exhibitions are suspended until further notice.

This applies to direct/ face to face events like open studios, exhibitions, studio visits, etc. We’re still working on new ways to connect and show you exciting work, however this is something we’re still trying to figure out as well, so check this space! Or you can sign up to our mailing list or follow us on social media to receive any updates.

Gift cards, (including e-cards) are available immediately; the perfect present for a discerning design devotee or budding print maker. Our gift cards may be redeemed on any of product or service offered on our website, i.e. bespoke services, courses, products, although some many not be available until all government restrictions are lifted. Please contact us if you have any questions about what is currently available. Your support is a lifeline for us in continuing with our craft during the pandemic.

COVID-19 Service Changes

We’re still open!

As a small, independent, creative business, all of our design-led products have been crafted in small batches. As many are made to order, these products have primarily been created in isolation in our Edinburgh studio.

With this in mind, only one person has been preparing, crafting or hand finishing the handcrafted products at any one time. This has always bided well in maintaining control over the quality of our work, and now has the added benefit of working within government COVID-19 prevention guidelines.

Additional measures have also been introduced within our studio & creative practices during this challenging time in order to protect everyone, and to adhere to government advice and guidelines. Our studio is still be operating, albeit on a reduced scale, and this is what we have put in place:

Temporary suspension of all activities which involve face to face or direct contact with one another, i.e. courses, open studios, site project visits and meetings, shows, fairs, etc. We will review this situation on a week-to-week basis, in accordance to government guidelines.
We have put all of our custom made products and services on hold until lockdown is eased or lifted.
Orders and deliveries of products will only be available on the interior accessories range, of which we have existing stock of already, i.e. coasters, placemats, selected cushions and samples. These products are all available online through our website.
Orders placed for available products will be prepared in isolation in our studio, adhering to our updated hygiene protocol of:

All processing and packaging will take place within a regularly cleaned/ sterilized preparation area
Regular hand-washing
Regular use of hand sanitizers
Gloves and face masks will be worn during processing and packaging
Products will be dispatched and delivered using no-contact services available through the Royal Mail and selected courier services.

Due to the current limitations, we are asking for your patience while we try to deliver the best service we possibly can under the circumstance. However there may be unforeseen delays in these delivery times.

Top Interior Design Trends we’ll see in 2016

One of our highlights here at Moody Monday is anticipating new interior design trends. We see them as an opportunity to truly understand customer needs, innovate and dictate where the industry is going.

In today’s blog post, we share the key trends we believe will set the tone for interior design in 2016.

1. Cosmic Attraction

Ethereal, deep and richly stimulating, this colour trend transports us into a state of serenity, beauty and adventure at the same time. Imagine exploring the colours of the night sky: midnight blues, turquoise, rich greens – the perfect colours to complete a warm and captivating interior.

This trend with its futuresque look and feel will make an impression on walls and soft furnishings in 2016. It is clear that we increasingly want personal spaces which are honest, pure and can arouse all our senses.

2. Metallic tones

With Cherished Gold named Dulux’s colour of 2016 , we will see luxe metallic finishes everywhere. Our love for metals from 2015 lingers as gold, stainless steel, platinum and brass continue to make appearances.

Look out for rich metallic tones especially in furniture, bathroom fittings, decorative accessories, wall coverings and even artwork. Irrespective of your home style, mixing metals can add the perfect sparkle and sophistication to any space. We will likely see a move away from garish overly polished looks to softer hues as homeowners look to create interest without being ostentatious.

3. Black stainless steel kitchens

Move over shiny silver, the kitchen appliance industry is going back to black. We saw this trend starting to creep in towards the end of last year and it’s here to stay. With a more subtle, less reflective finish, we’ve seen Samsung and LG launch new suites of appliances in the last few months.

British interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard adds that “No longer side lined as the metal for overwrought outdoor furniture or bed frames, the decidedly unflashy material is appearing as simple hardware, bathroom fixtures and even flatware”.

If you’re thinking of a kitchen makeover this year, this is the trend you should definitely take seriously.

4. Bathroom Comforts

Fewer quick showers, it’s time for more pampering. Look forward to seeing more décor and stylish cabinetry making its way into the bathroom, turning it almost into a second bedroom.

The focus in 2016 will be more on the ambience of the bathroom. To stay on trend, adding a stool, statement mirrors and greenery can create a well lived-in space you want to wake up to in the morning or escape to at night.

Luxury Watch Store Designed by Patricia Urquoila

Patricia Urquoila’s recent luxury retail store design is a perfect combination of creativity and sophistication. Panerai, the luxury Italian watch brand commissioned her to design its first US flagship store in Miami. Designers really do make the world tick, no pun intended.

The leading Spanish designer and architect has challenged the status quo. By creating an ultra-modern environment with class, she translates the brand’s ethos beautifully. We like the way fashion and design come together.

The luxury store complete with luxurious finishes like gold, marble and bronze has design elements. They cleverly pay an ode to the inner workings of watches. A large wall clock resembles one of the brand’s watch faces. An open stair also mimics the teeth of a gear.

According to Donna Karan, “Design is a constant challenge to balance comfort with luxe, the practical with the desirable”.

We’re inspired by Patricia’s ability to exhibit this approach effortlessly time and time again. Last year, she designed her SHIMMER glass furniture collection which we shared in a previous blog post.

Now we’re in December, everyone is starting to get in on the Christmas decoration action. From luxury hotels to department stores, the desire to put up the most imaginative festive displays continues to grow year after year.

Four Seasons Hotel George V Paris

Jeff Leatham, artistic director at the hotel has gone all polar with this year’s arctic-themed display in the hotel lobby. Known for his floral installations, his Christmas displays at the hotel definitely do not go unnoticed. We really like his ingenuity.

Highlights from Decorex 2015

This time last week, we were down south in sunny England enjoying the sights and sounds of Syon Park. This was the chosen venue for Decorex International 2015 – the luxury design event of the year.

The design scene in London was buzzing last week. The London Design Festival kicked off with Decorex right at the start of the week from 20-23 September. The venue was filled to the brim with contemporary luxury furniture, lighting, wallpaper and a variety of home décor from a host of notable luxury brands. The four day event is the leading event for design professionals, interior designers, tradespeople and consumers to find out what’s trending and new on offer in the interior design industry.

Right there at Stand F17, Moody Monday was present with seven other talented designers specially selected by Design Nation. We were there to showcase a preview of the new designs we’ve been working on with our wallpaper and cushions (more to come on our official launch).

Stockist Profile – Concrete Wardrobe

For our first stockist spotlight this September, we’re keeping it local and bringing things back home to Edinburgh. The business we’re featuring today is Concrete Wardrobe.

Concrete Wardrobe co-founders, James Donald and Fiona MacIntosh started the business in 2000 with the mission to showcase contemporary Scottish craftsmanship and design. They continue to maintain this ethos and as a result have an extensive team of talented designers which they collaborate with. They also share design stories through their Maker of the Month series.

The shop located at 50a Broughton Street, Edinburgh is packed with a variety of quality homewares, jewellery, prints, glass, ceramics and accessories. Our Black Keys wallpaper beautifully graces the interior of the shop and you can also find our beautiful range of Moody Monday coasters and place mats in there too.

Whether you’re new to buying products from Scottish trained or based designers or you’re already an advocate and couldn’t see yourself buying anything else, this store is definitely worth visiting.

Design focus: Refurbishment of Blake Tower

Architecture is one of our key interests here at Moody Monday. We furnish spaces and buildings with our wall coverings and interior accessories after all.

Conran and Partners, an architecture and design studio has been appointed to revamp the grade II listed Blake Tower into an exceptional residential London development.

The Blake Tower, which was named after the 18th-century poet, William Blake is part of the widely known Barbican Estate in London. The Estate is known as one of the largest examples of the Brutalist concrete architecture and represents a Utopian ideal for inner-city living.

It will be transformed from a youth hostel into 74 luxury apartments. The 17-storey building before becoming unoccupied in 2012 was home to 250 young people as London’s most inner city YMCA. The interiors will be inspired with the shapes of the Barbican’s buildings and the softening of the external public spaces which have established lush greenery and landscape in mind.

A range of one, two and three bedrooms, studios and penthouses will be available. Look out, all keen property investors.

Stockist Profile: Introducing WALPA Japan

Over the last few weeks we’ve been doing spotlights on some of the amazing businesses we work with. Today we’re off to our stockist in the Asian Continent – WALPA.

They are a Japan-based wallpaper specialty store dedicated to bringing happiness and comfort to people through wallpaper. Their mission is to bring a new love for patterned walls to Japan. Their five stores are beautifully designed and presented as you can see (pictured below). Customers literally get a piece of ‘wallpaper heaven’.

WALPA’s collections range from modern, classic, shabby chic to vintage, Moroccan, you name it. You’ll find they have a vast plethora of styles available to meet everyone’s needs. They stock a wide array of brands from various parts of the world including well-known UK based ones such as Moody Monday, Liberty, Graham and Brown, Cole and Son.

Bird inspired lamps from Temple and Ivy

Many creative designers have a knack for exploring elements of their environments to motivate and inspire them in their creative journey. The brand we’re featuring today takes you right into nature with their exquisite lamp collection.

For their very first collection, Temple and Ivy were inspired by the flamboyance and beauty of birds they encountered on their African travels in Kenya and Zimbabwe. They are also captivated by the Georgian era which was heavily characterised by the use of feet in furniture design.
