How to create a relaxing bathroom

Long days in the office, countless trips to kids’ clubs and activities, endless hours scrolling through our phones, we 21st century humans are probably the busiest lot ever in the history of time. Thankfully the majority of us have been blessed with a great asset in our homes which we tend to under-utilise – The bathroom. This precious room can take us from all that chaos, hustle and bustle right into a temporary state of calmness, renewal and rejuvenation if we care to use it well.

Especially as we approach the colder months, we can enjoy more time at home and escape into a little world of serenity every now and again. What is important in making your bathroom more relaxing is to focus on treating all of your senses to some delight. Read on for some of our tips.

See a beautiful view

Soft whites, greys and earthy tones work very well to create a simple and visually appealing scheme in the bathroom. Harsh overhead lighting doesn’t do much when you’re trying to relax, use dimmable lighting to alter the ambience. White candles are also a favorite for adding a crisp, luxurious feel.

Add an extra touch of cosiness

The last thing you want when you enter your bathroom is to be hit with icy coolness. A towel warmer will keep that bathroom nice and toasty, ready for you even before you step into the bath tub. Good quality bath towels and bath mats are a must have. Finish off with a cosy fluffy robe to enjoy some extra hours of warmth and comfort as you lounge around the house.

Good tunes for your ears

The set is all ready. Don’t let it be spoiled by noisy neighbours or noise-loving family members. Shut windows, doors and anything else that can keep the noise out as you settle in to relax. Get some soothing music on and escape into a world of your own.

Smell the goodness

Nothing beats a nicely scented bathroom, it adds something soothing to the whole bathing experience. Essential oils, bath bombs, rose petals, you name them. Fresh flowers like roses and lavender are a perfect addition for that extra beautiful aroma. No wonder spas use this trick all the time.

Tickle your taste buds

Except you’re not one for eating and drinking in the bathroom, a glass of wine can be just the thing to calm you down even further. You’ll soon be booking these special bath times into your diary before you know it.

Can we tempt you to see your bathroom a little differently today?

4 Clever Ideas for under your staircase

With TV programmes like Double your House for Half the money, more homeowners are looking to maximise the space they have and increase the value of their homes over time. It has become more important to look out for any “dead” or unused space which can be transformed for better use. One of such spaces is under the staircase. The few examples we present are to provide you with ideas for the limitless opportunities the space under your staircase offers.

Perfect storage space

This is probably one of the most common uses for the space under the staircase. The angular shape offers a natural pattern for a perfect custom built-in storage solution. A must have for book lovers who need as much space as they can get for their treasured possessions. Not limited to books, decorative accessories can also help add style and add more character.

As a powder room

Sometimes we could do with just that extra toilet for guests. How about using the space under the stairs? With a good space-saving layout, it won’t require much and it can provide that additional functionality and convenience you want in your home.

Reading nook

Most kids like having a bit of relaxation time reading a book or catching up on their favourite cartoons on their tablets at home. A reading nook under the stairs kitted with fluffy pillows and throws to give it that extra cosiness will get those little ones enjoying their down time without any bother.

For a home office

With more budding entrepreneurs, the working from home phenomenom is sure on the increase. Most people are not able to dedicate a whole room to their business office space so they turn their eyes to this underused space.

Highlights from Decorex 2015

This time last week, we were down south in sunny England enjoying the sights and sounds of Syon Park. This was the chosen venue for Decorex International 2015 – the luxury design event of the year.

The design scene in London was buzzing last week. The London Design Festival kicked off with Decorex right at the start of the week from 20-23 September. The venue was filled to the brim with contemporary luxury furniture, lighting, wallpaper and a variety of home décor from a host of notable luxury brands. The four day event is the leading event for design professionals, interior designers, tradespeople and consumers to find out what’s trending and new on offer in the interior design industry.

Right there at Stand F17, Moody Monday was present with seven other talented designers specially selected by Design Nation. We were there to showcase a preview of the new designs we’ve been working on with our wallpaper and cushions (more to come on our official launch).

Designer’s pick – Luxury furniture

If you love luxury furniture, you’ll love this collection. They’ve been fondly given the name ‘Common Comrades’.  Designed for Mooi by Neri&Hu, this collection of luxury stools is inspired by those seen throughout China. Lyndon Neri and Rossana who founded Neri&Hu Design and Research Office are the designers behind them.

“A clever personification of the simplicity of country life, where everybody knows ‘who’ you are and ‘what’ you do”. The Common Comrades table family amuses us with its utilitarian simplicity & honest soul. – excerpt from moooi.com

blog1_luxury furniture_Moooi stools

Bestowed with names like Emperor, Merchant and Farmer, each stool embodies a personality within a community. It’s also fascinating to see how the designers have cleverly integrated kanji lettering, one of the three main writing systems of the Japanese language into the design of the stools.

We love the polished look with the bold red colour clearly adding to this effect. Undoubtedly making a stand-out piece in any environment.  They can be used individually as a stool, bedside table or grouped together to create a unified modern style.

Made from solid birch and a red lacquered finish at the base, they represent a perfect balance of form, function and detail. Luxury furniture up our street. We can definitely imagine them teamed up with the backdrop of our Moody Monday wallpaper Secret Music collection.

Design focus: Refurbishment of Blake Tower

Architecture is one of our key interests here at Moody Monday. We furnish spaces and buildings with our wall coverings and interior accessories after all.

Conran and Partners, an architecture and design studio has been appointed to revamp the grade II listed Blake Tower into an exceptional residential London development.

blog4_blaketower

The Blake Tower, which was named after the 18th-century poet, William Blake is part of the widely known Barbican Estate in London. The Estate is known as one of the largest examples of the Brutalist concrete architecture and represents a Utopian ideal for inner-city living.

blog1_blake tower

It will be transformed from a youth hostel into 74 luxury apartments. The 17-storey building before becoming unoccupied in 2012 was home to 250 young people as London’s most inner city YMCA. The interiors will be inspired with the shapes of the Barbican’s buildings and the softening of the external public spaces which have established lush greenery and landscape in mind.

A range of one, two and three bedrooms, studios and penthouses will be available. Look out, all keen property investors.

Bird inspired lamps from Temple and Ivy

Many creative designers have a knack for exploring elements of their environments to motivate and inspire them in their creative journey. The brand we’re featuring today takes you right into nature with their exquisite lamp collection.

For their very first collection, Temple and Ivy were inspired by the flamboyance and beauty of birds they encountered on their African travels in Kenya and Zimbabwe. They are also captivated by the Georgian era which was heavily characterised by the use of feet in furniture design.
